Productivity : Multi-clipboards

It would surprise most of us, the amount of text and images we copy to the clipboard in an average work day. Even more surprising is the number of times we re-copy and re-paste the same items to emails, documents and chats.

That’s where this productivity hack flexes its muscles – the ability to store multiple items in the clipboard and access them easily is an absolute productivity game-changer.

This productivity tool also enables you to copy things ‘out of sequence’ because you can always access items later. If you know you’ll need a total or a sku code or a code snippet later, you can grab it now and then recall it when needed.

A multi-clipboard tool is one of the first utilities I install on any new computer, because it enables 3-10x productivity savings. “

Fortunately, there are multi-clipboard tools on all platforms (Linux, Mac and Windows), and they all work in much the same way. They operate in the background, seamlessly storing everything we copy and cut. On Windows, my current favourite is Ditto, whilst on Linux I like ‘parcellite’ (although there are many options).

Using a keyboard shortcut, a menu item opens at your mouse cursor and the relevant snippet can be searched for, selected and ultimately pasted.

My default is to enable storage for 500-1000 items as there is no real downside to this, and definitely ensure that images are also catered for.

I highly recommend trying life with this tool – you’ll soon be hooked!
